Cappies(National Capital Area)

The Cappies is a writing and awards program that trains high school theatre and journalism students to be expert writers, critical thinkers, and leaders. Student critics vie to be published in local media outlets by attending productions at other schools and writing critical reviews.

Throughout the school year, critics have many opportunities to get their work published in the local media. At the end of the year, a gala is held at the Kennedy Center to award students for excellence in all areas of theatre including performance, tech, and writing. Nominations are collectively decided upon by the student critics. Schools from all over the National Capital Area come together for one night to celebrate the beauty and talent high school theatre has to offer.
